I took part in the 2018 Penguin Books Competition - Student Awards.

​

The brief required that I would redesign a fictional book (Animals Farm) and a non-fiction book (A Brief History of Time). 

 

I couldn't choose which out of the two I wanted to redesign so I did both books and submitted both books under a different alias.

My personally favourite and also the most time-consuming is 'A Brief History of Time' by Stephen Hawkins. I made sure that I would have a mathematical approach in redesigning this book, and in by doing so that, I had used the Golden Ratio.

In mathematics, two quantities are in the golden ratio if their ratio is the same as the ratio of their sum to the larger of the two quantities. The figure on the right illustrates the geometric relationship.

In other words, this is the most proportional, geometric, balance of shapes you can get in design a portrait.
