A Clockwork Orange
In celebration of the 100th year since the birth of Manchester's most famous author Anthony Burgess, I took part in a Design MCR competition whereby we would re-imagine a book cover for any of the books written by Burgess.
My book cover of choice was A Clockwork Orange.
I always have been a fan of the haunting, eerie, dystopian film made by Stanley Kubrick. A film so violent that it was banned to be featured in cinemas in the UK.
In the making of this cover, I interpreted the scene whereby a scientist tortures Alex (main character) with an eye-balling aversion therapy. His eyes are forced open as he watches torturous scenes at the cinema.
I was told the day after the submission that I had the competition and the piece is now featured in the Anthony Burgess foundation on Cambridge Street, Manchester.
